How to Ship Internationally from Rockford, IL

Sending something overseas from Rockford? Here's how it works when you come in.

Shipping overseas sounds harder than it is. It comes down to paperwork, packing and picking the right carrier. Let's walk through it.

Before you come in

  • Who's getting it?

Bring their full name, street address, country and a phone number. Write it all out, with no abbreviations.

  • What's in the box?

Tell us each item, and be specific: "power drill," not "tools." Every item needs its own value.

  • The paperwork

We handle the customs forms here. Selling what you're sending? Bring your invoice.

  • The rules at the other end

Every country has its own list of things it won't take. If a package breaks the rules, customs can turn it away, send it back, or even destroy it. Not sure about batteries, liquids or food? Ask us before you pack.

Pack it for the trip

  • Use a new, sturdy box. Try not to reuse old ones.
  • Leave at least 2 inches of cushioning on every side. Fill any empty space.
  • Packing something fragile? Box it twice. Make the outer box 6 inches bigger every way, and leave 3 inches of cushioning between the two boxes.
  • Seal every seam with strong shipping tape. Skip the masking, duct and cellophane tape.
  • Put the full address and a phone number on the outside. Then tuck a second address label inside.

These tips come from UPS's own packing guidelines. Every carrier can add its own rules, so we pack to the one you choose.

Rather not pack it yourself? Bring it in. We pack fragile, oversized and international shipments, and the boxes, foam and bracing are right here. Professional packing

Quick answers

What should I bring?
The package, or the item and we'll pack it. Bring the recipient's full address and phone number, plus a list of what's inside and what each item is worth. We'll handle the customs paperwork here.
Who pays duties and taxes?
The country you're sending to sets them, and they aren't part of the shipping price. Depending on the carrier and service, you can prepay them, or the person receiving it pays on delivery. USPS also notes that since July 1, 2026, packages valued up to €150 sent to EU customs-rule countries may face new import duties and requirements. Ask us which options your shipment has.
How long will it take?
It depends on the carrier, the service, where it's going and customs. For example, USPS lists 3–5 business days for Priority Mail Express International and 6–10 business days for Priority Mail International to many major markets. It also says customs delays can change that. We'll go over your options at the counter.
Can you pack it for me?
Yes. We pack fragile, oversized and high-value items, including international shipments, to the carrier's requirements. The boxes, foam and bracing are all here.
